Buttercream Meadow started life as two individual British rare breed sheepskins. Each fleece was carefully laid alongside dozens of others until we found two that shared the same gentle buttercream tones, beautifully soft texture and naturally balanced character. Matching fleeces like this is one of the most time-consuming parts of creating our handmade double sheepskin rugs, and it’s something that simply can’t be rushed.

Looking across the finished rug, your eye is drawn to the beautifully creamy centre, where rich buttercream tones melt into soft shades of fresh cream, warm oat and pale ivory. There are no bold markings demanding attention, just gentle natural variations that reveal themselves as the fleece catches the light. The result is wonderfully calm, elegant and reassuringly natural, with the sort of quiet beauty that never goes out of style.

Each sheepskin begins its journey on British farms before being expertly tanned here in the South West. Once we’ve found two fleeces that truly belong together, we get to work in our Somerset workshop, where they are carefully cut, trimmed, stitched and finished using the same traditional methods we’ve followed since 1986. Every stage is completed by hand, allowing us to create a double that feels as though nature intended it to be one piece.

Measuring an impressive 202 cm × 73 cm, Buttercream Meadow is a wonderfully versatile size. Whether draped across the back of a sofa, laid beside a bed, placed in front of a fireplace or positioned beneath a favourite armchair, it instantly adds warmth, texture and a feeling of comfort to your home.

Run your hand through the fleece and you’ll immediately notice its beautiful depth and softness. Like all genuine sheepskin, it is naturally breathable and temperature regulating, helping to keep you warm during the colder months while remaining comfortable throughout the rest of the year.

As with all of our British rare breed sheepskin rugs, no dyes or bleach have been used to create these beautiful tones. Every shade, every subtle variation and every natural marking is exactly as nature intended, making this rug completely unique.

We’ve been handcrafting sheepskin rugs here in Somerset since 1986, and every year it becomes a little harder to create doubles like Buttercream Meadow. British rare breed fleeces are produced in relatively small numbers, and finding two individual sheepskins that complement one another so naturally can take hours of careful searching. Many beautiful fleeces remain as singles simply because we refuse to compromise. If they don’t feel right together, they simply aren’t stitched together.

Before photographing, we carefully brush every rug by hand here in our Somerset workshop, so the sheepskin you see is the exact one you’ll receive.
