A beautifully understated double sheepskin rug, handcrafted from two carefully matched 100% British undyed rare breed fleeces. These sheepskins are from sheep which are bred, grazed, culled and tanned all right here in the UK, making them a thoroughly British rug! The natural colouring is a soft ivory throughout, gently framed by subtle taupe edging that occurs naturally within the sheepskin. The effect is elegant, calming and timeless, allowing the character of the fur itself to take centre stage. We nicknamed this rug Dorset Ivory because its soft ivory fleece and gentle taupe edging reminded us of the chalk cliffs, weathered limestone and natural coastal tones found along the Dorset shoreline. Being based in Somerset, just a stone’s throw from the Dorset border ourselves, the name felt particularly fitting. Under different light, the subtle natural tones shift beautifully, much like the changing colours of the coast itself.
Measuring an impressive 198 cm × 75 cm, this is a substantial statement rug with a wonderfully balanced shape. The fleece has a slightly shorter, denser handle than some of our longer-haired doubles, giving it a refined appearance whilst still retaining all the softness and warmth that genuine sheepskin is loved for.
Every fleece remains completely natural and undyed. There are no bleaches, dyes or artificial colourings, just the authentic shades and markings created by nature. Each skin is individually hand-selected before being carefully paired and stitched together in our Somerset workshop. Creating a double rug like this is a slow, traditional process that cannot be rushed. Finding two fleeces that complement one another in colour, texture and shape becomes increasingly difficult every year, making each finished rug a genuine one-off.
We have been crafting sheepskin rugs in Somerset since 1986, and today pieces like this remain at the heart of what we do. As far as we are aware, very few workshops still create undyed British rare breed double sheepskin rugs entirely by hand, and we are proud to continue that tradition from our small family workshop.
Whether placed beside a bed, draped across a sofa or laid in front of the fire, this rug brings natural texture, warmth and character to any space.

We call these “Organic” sheepskins because they are entirely free of any bleach or dye, they have still been tanned to preserve the hide, but the colouring and patterns have been left 100% utterly as nature intended. We do our very best to take these photographs in natural light and we do not alter the colouring post production. However as much as we try to give a clear reflection on the colouring, sheepskin is a natural product and in some lights tones may appear differently, this is the beauty of buying such a unique sheepskin.
