Handcrafted Rare Breed Undyed Icelandic Double Sheepskin Rug

There are sheepskin rugs, and then there are rugs like this.

Handcrafted in our small Somerset workshop, Black & Ivory is one of the most dramatic Icelandic double sheepskin rugs we have ever created. Measuring an incredible 214 cm × 88 cm, it is, without question, the largest Icelandic double sheepskin rug we have ever made. With over two metres of wonderfully wild Icelandic fleece flowing from end to end, it has a presence that is impossible to ignore.

The colouring is entirely natural and completely undyed. Rich black fleece contrasts beautifully against striking ivory and cream sections throughout the rug, creating a bold monochrome appearance that feels almost too perfect to be natural. Yet every shade, marking and pattern has been created by nature alone. No dyes, no bleach, just the remarkable character of genuine rare breed Icelandic sheepskin.

Made from two exceptional Icelandic fleeces, each skin was individually selected and carefully hand matched before being stitched together here in Somerset. The long flowing fibres create incredible movement throughout the rug, giving it an untamed appearance that feels both luxurious and authentic.

Creating any Icelandic double is a challenge. Creating one of this size is something else entirely. Finding two fleeces with the length, character and visual impact required to create a rug of this scale took years, making it a particularly special achievement for our workshop.

Since establishing our family workshop in 1986, we have worked with thousands of sheepskins, yet this remains the largest Icelandic double we have ever successfully created.

Icelandic sheepskins are prized for their wonderfully long outer fibres and soft insulating undercoat beneath. The result is a fleece with extraordinary texture, depth and movement, unlike any other breed of sheepskin. As the light moves across the rug, the contrasting black and ivory fibres seem to shift and change, revealing new details from every angle.

Whether draped across a sofa, laid beside a bed or placed in front of a fire, this extraordinary rug is guaranteed to become the focal point of any room.

This is a true one-off. The natural markings, character and balance of these fleeces can never be repeated, making Black & Ivory a genuinely unique piece of handcrafted homeware.
