100% British Undyed Rare Breed Natural UK Double Sheepskin Rug – Handmade in Somerset. Winter Bracken – 205cm × 73cm

A wonderfully soft, generously sized British Rare Breed Double Sheepskin, with a beautifully thick fleece in delicate shades of warm ivory and natural cream. Look closely and you’ll discover the prettiest little dark cocoa specks nestled amongst the wool, with just a small touch of deeper cocoa colouring along one edge. These subtle markings give Winter Bracken a lovely character all of its own, without taking away from its beautifully light, creamy appearance.

We chose the name Winter Bracken as its gorgeous pale fleece reminds us of a frosty winter morning here in the Somerset countryside, when the fields are dusted with frost and the last of the dark bracken peeks through. Those tiny cocoa markings against the soft ivory wool capture that lovely contrast perfectly. A little piece of the British countryside brought indoors!

This is a 100% British undyed sheepskin rug, made using rare breed fleeces from British farms, with no bleach or dyes. Every beautiful shade and natural marking is exactly as nature intended.

We hand-select our fleeces at the tannery, choosing for softness, quality and natural character. Once back at our Somerset workshop, we lay them out across the floor, carefully searching for two that complement one another beautifully. Colour, shape, thickness, texture and natural markings must all work together, and finding the perfect pairing can take quite some time!

Once we’re completely happy, the fleeces are carefully cut, sewn together and brushed, all here in our Somerset workshop. It’s a wonderfully traditional, artisan process, requiring patience, skill and a good eye for detail. These aren’t simply two random sheepskins sewn together; each rug is thoughtfully matched and individually created, with every stage given the time and attention it deserves.

Our little family workshop overlooks beautifully landscaped gardens, with views towards Glastonbury Tor and the surrounding Somerset countryside. It’s a wonderfully peaceful place to work, and the changing seasons around us often inspire the names we give our individual sheepskins.

We’ve been making sheepskin rugs here in Somerset since 1986, and we’re incredibly proud to be one of the last remaining workshops in the UK still creating these beautiful 100% British undyed rare breed double rugs by hand. It’s a traditional craft we’re passionate about preserving, whilst supporting British farming and our wonderful British sheepskin industry.

At approximately 205cm long and 73cm wide, Winter Bracken is a wonderfully substantial double sheepskin. Its thick, beautifully soft fleece would look simply gorgeous draped across a sofa, laid beside a bed or placed in front of a roaring fire. The gentle ivory colouring makes it wonderfully versatile, whilst those delicate cocoa markings add just enough individuality to make it rather special.
