Why We Believe Where Something Is Made Still Matters

There’s something rather special about buying directly from the people who make what you’re bringing into your home.

In a world of anonymous warehouses, next-day deliveries and mass production, it can be easy to forget that many traditional British businesses are still quietly making beautiful things by hand, often in small workshops where every order is prepared by someone who genuinely cares.

At Sheepland, that’s exactly how we’ve worked since 1986. We’re a small family business based in the Somerset countryside, handcrafting and carefully selecting natural sheepskin products from our rural workshop. It’s a slower way of working, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.

More Than Just a Workshop

Visitors are often surprised when they arrive to us here at Sheepland.

Instead of an industrial estate or large factory, they find a peaceful farmyard setting surrounded by landscaped gardens, mature trees and views across the Mendip Hills. Our workshop sits just a few steps from our family home, where every day our small team cuts, stitches, matches and finishes sheepskin products by hand.

It’s a place where craftsmanship still comes first, and where every order is treated with the same care and attention we’d hope to receive ourselves, from the moment it’s selected right through to being packed for its journey.

A Family Business Through and Through

One of the things we’re most proud of is that we’re still a genuinely independent family business.

When you get in touch, you’ll be speaking to someone who knows the products inside out. Whether it’s helping you choose the right rug or answering a question about your order, you’ll always receive friendly, knowledgeable advice from our small Somerset team.

There aren’t departments or call centres—just a handful of people who know our products inside and out and want you to receive something you’ll enjoy for many years.

That personal approach is something our customers regularly mention in their reviews, and it’s one of the reasons so many return to us again and again.

Handmade the Slow Way

Many of our British sheepskin rugs are individually hand matched before being stitched together here in Somerset.

Our slippers are still crafted using traditional methods, while every natural sheepskin is individually selected for its colour, texture and character.

No two sheepskins are ever identical, and that’s exactly how nature intended them to be.

Rather than trying to make every product look the same, we celebrate those subtle differences that make each piece unique.

Come Behind the Scenes

If you’ve ever wondered what life is like at Sheepland, we’d love to show you.

We’ve put together a page that tells the story of our workshop, our family, our gardens and the people behind the products. You’ll also find photographs of where we work and the beautiful surroundings that inspire us every day.

Whether you’ve been a customer for years or have only just discovered us, we hope it gives you a little insight into why we’re so passionate about keeping traditional British craftsmanship alive.
