Handcrafted in our Somerset workshop from carefully matched British rare breed sheepskins, Mahogany Tipped is a beautifully rich and characterful double rug with an abundance of natural warmth.

The colouring is a deep mahogany brown with beautiful sun-tipped highlights running throughout the fleece. These lighter tips are not dyed or bleached by hand, but are naturally created by the many hours the sheep spend grazing in open fields, where sunlight gently lightens the outermost fibres over time. It is one of nature’s finishing touches, creating a depth and character that makes every fleece unique. Against the darker wool beneath, these naturally sun-kissed tips give the rug its wonderfully distinctive appearance and warm, inviting feel.

Each sheepskin begins its life on British farms before being expertly tanned and brought to our family workshop in Somerset. Here, we carefully lay out and hand-select individual fleeces, searching for those rare pairings that complement one another in colour, texture and character. Once matched, they are stitched, shaped and finished entirely by hand, following the same slow, traditional process we have been using since 1986.

At an impressive 206 cm × 72 cm, this is a substantial double sheepskin rug with a beautifully elegant shape. Whether draped over a sofa, laid beside a bed or placed in front of a fire, it brings natural texture, warmth and softness to any room.

Creating a double rug like this is a surprisingly time-consuming process. Every fleece is unique, and finding two sheepskins that work harmoniously together becomes more difficult with each passing year. It is one of the reasons why pieces like this are becoming increasingly rare.

The fleece is wonderfully dense, silky and tactile, with the kind of natural character that only genuine sheepskin can offer. Like all sheepskin, it is naturally breathable and temperature regulating, helping to create comfort throughout the seasons.

As with every rug we create, this is a genuine one-off. The natural markings, tonal variations and character of the fleece ensure that no two will ever be exactly alike.

We are proud to be one of the last remaining workshops in the UK still handcrafting undyed British rare breed double sheepskin rugs in this traditional way, entirely by hand, here in Somerset.
