100% British Undyed Rare Breed Natural UK Double Sheepskin Rug – Made by hand in Somerset
We are absolutely thrilled to share our beautiful 100% British Undyed Natural Double Sheepskin Rug, which we’ve nicknamed “Honey Whisper.” The sheepskin has a soft ivory base with the gentlest touch of honey at the edges, bringing a lovely warmth and softness to the whole rug. The honey tones are incredibly delicate, the sort of detail some might almost miss, yet they add a wonderful depth to the fleece. In the sunlight especially, you can really see how those subtle tones bring further depth to the colours and make it feel even more inviting.
This fleece has been hand picked and stitched by us from 100% British sheepskins, from sheep bred and grazed in the UK with their skins being tanned in our South West Tannery. It is one of the softest we have come across in quite some time, with beautifully silky wool that you simply cannot resist running your hand through. Once this rug is gone, it is gone.
Each sheepskin is carefully and painstakingly hand matched by us here in our Somerset workshop, often taking us many hours, we look at every sheepskin individually, taking the time to lay every single out until we find the perfect pair where the tones sit naturally together. Only then are they stitched and finished by hand. We have been making sheepskin pieces here in Somerset since 1986, and it remains a slower, traditional way of working, but one that allows every rug to be made with real care and attention. We are the only company in Somerset, (perhaps even the country!), still making these 100% British undyed organic rare breed double sheepskins.
Chosen by hand, it looks fantastic with its unique colouring, softness and exceptional quality. These organic rugs are perfect around the home and can be used as chair throws, at the end of a bed, stool covers, window seats, in front of a fire or even in a bathroom.
As you can see, we have just finished sewing this beautiful rug from the most wonderful natural undyed “organic” sheepskins, which are entirely free of any bleach or dye. The cross breed flocks produce some of the most unusual tones and patterns within their fleeces, which are near impossible to replicate with dyes. Each and every double we make from these skins is completely different, and as the fleeces are so unique they simply cannot be replicated, ensuring you have something entirely individual. The skins have still been tanned to preserve the hide, but the colouring and patterns have been left completely as nature intended.
This rug is approximately 190cm in length and 70cm across the middle part of the rug.
These look incredible in any room, but especially attractive draped over chairs or in front of a fireplace. They can be kept looking wonderful with a sheepskin brush, which we provide free with every rug purchase. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to call us and we will be very happy to help.
We photograph our sheepskins in natural light and do not alter the colouring afterwards. However, sheepskin is a natural product and tones may appear slightly different in different lights, which is all part of the beauty of buying such a unique piece.
