100% British Undyed Rare Breed Natural UK Double Sheepskin Rug – Handmade in Somerset

Avalon Mist – 198cm × 79cm

A beautifully soft, creamy ivory fleece with the faintest little whispers of caramel and coffee nestled naturally amongst the wool. These delicate accents are wonderfully subtle, barely noticeable at first glance, giving the sheepskin just a hint of warmth and character without taking away from its lovely pale, creamy appearance. The result is an exceptionally elegant, understated sheepskin with a wonderfully luxurious feel.

We chose the name Avalon Mist as it has a rather special connection to our little Somerset workshop. We make our sheepskin rugs overlooking our beautifully landscaped gardens, with views towards Glastonbury Tor and the surrounding countryside. On misty mornings, the landscape takes on the softest shades of ivory and cream, with the Tor rising through the haze in the distance. The delicate colouring of this particular sheepskin reminded us of those peaceful Somerset mornings, and the name seemed rather fitting.

This is a 100% British undyed sheepskin rug, made using rare breed fleeces from British farms, with no bleach or dyes. Every shade and delicate marking is exactly as nature intended.

We hand-select our fleeces at the tannery, choosing for softness, quality and natural character. Once back at our Somerset workshop, we lay them out across the floor, carefully searching for two that complement one another beautifully. Colour, shape, thickness, texture and markings must all work together, and finding the perfect pairing can take quite some time!

Once we’re completely happy, the fleeces are carefully cut, sewn together and brushed, all here in our Somerset workshop. It’s a wonderfully traditional, artisan process, requiring patience, skill and a good eye for detail. Each rug is individually created rather than simply joining two random sheepskins together.

We’ve been making sheepskin rugs here in Somerset since 1986, and we’re incredibly proud to be one of the last remaining workshops in the UK still creating these beautiful 100% British undyed rare breed double rugs by hand. It’s a traditional craft we’re passionate about preserving, whilst supporting British farming and our wonderful British sheepskin industry.

At approximately 198cm long and 79cm wide, Avalon Mist is a wonderfully generous double sheepskin. The fleece is beautifully full and soft, with a lovely natural texture and those barely-there caramel and coffee accents adding just the gentlest touch of individuality. Its wonderfully neutral colouring makes it perfect draped across a sofa, laid beside a bed or placed in front of a roaring fire.

Exclusive to us. Carefully paired, cut, sewn and brushed in our small Somerset workshop, surrounded by the very countryside that inspired its name, with every stage given the time and attention it deserves.
