This fantastic sheepskin, is one of the most unique fleeces we’ve seen so far this year and we absolutely love it!
We are lucky enough to work just a stone’s throw from Glastonbury, where the ancient Isle of Avalon is said to have once stood. Around here the stories are everywhere. Locals talk about the Tor, the old legends of magic, and the mysterious ley lines said to cross the Somerset landscape. Whether you believe the folklore or not, there is something rather special about this corner of the world. When we brushed up this fleece and spotted those beautiful cocoa tones sitting across the soft ivory wool, the name Avalon felt exactly right.
The sheepskin itself is dense and luxurious, with a thick, cloud soft handle that drapes beautifully. Its natural ivory tones are warm and gentle, but what really gives this rug its character are the cocoa accents that appear naturally through the fleece. These markings are completely natural little quirks of the skin, the sort of thing that makes each sheepskin entirely unique. Nothing here is mass produced. Every sheepskin that passes through our hands is prepared right here in our small Somerset workshop. We cut, brush, shape, match, stitch and finish each rug ourselves by hand. The edges are carefully trimmed, the fleece is brushed out so it sits just right, and each piece is individually finished so it shows off the fleece at its best.
It is a slower way of doing things, but it is the way we have always done it.
The result is a beautifully soft, characterful sheepskin with a story behind it, named after the legendary landscape just down the road from us. A truly unique rug, with a little touch of Avalon magic woven through the fleece.
